Stray dogs

We have a duty to seize any dog found unaccompanied in a public place or on private property where it has not been invited. We also have to provide somewhere for dogs to be sheltered outside of normal working hours

If you find a stray dog in normal working hours please call us on 0115 901 3972 and we will arrange to collect it from you.

Our opening times are Monday to Thursday 8:45am to 4:30pm and Friday 8:45am to 4pm.

If you find a stray dog at any other time please call 07974 082 322 and you will be given details of the location of where to take the dog to. Please note that we will be unable collect the dog from you outside of normal working hours and you may have to travel up to 11 miles from the Arnold area with the dog to the drop off point.

Our wardens will make all reasonable attempts to reunite stray dogs with its owner if it is wearing a collar and tag, or is micro chipped. Any dog found straying will be kenneled for seven full days in which time the owner may claim the dog. The dog owner will be liable for any costs incurred, please see the list below: 

Charges

• If your dog is collected within 24 hours of being seized the cost is £144
• If your dog is collected after 24 hours of being seized the cost is £183

Additional Fees

There may be additional veterinary fees if the dog is in pain or injured.
