A makers market, “digital safari”, storytelling workshops and a visit from Robin Hood and Maid Marion have been announced for Nottinghamshire Day celebrations across Arnold Town Centre.

Gedling Borough Council have organised a series of events to celebrate Nottinghamshire Day, which takes place on Friday 25 August. To start the day, the Nottinghamshire Flag will be raised by the Deputy Mayor of Gedling, Councillor Ron McCrossen, outside the Civic Centre in Arnot Hill Park.

Activities will be taking place throughout the day across Arnold Town Centre, including a pop up makers market outside The AMP featuring local Nottinghamshire based businesses, inclusive skateboard sessions from Skate Nottingham at King George V Skate Park as well as craft and storytelling workshops from Gedling Play Forum.

Dice & Balls, who will be opening their new venue at The AMP later this year, will be offering circus skills workshops and games to take part in, alongside stilt walking performances throughout the day.

World famous Nottingham icons, Robin Hood and Maid Marion will also be visiting the town centre during the day to speak to visitors and see what the event has to offer.

As well as the events taking place on the day, a free interactive "digital safari" experience will be launching in time for the event, allowing users to explore Arnold Town Centre using QR codes displayed in shop windows. Once a QR code is scanned the "Curious Creatures Safari" will present users with challenges, riddles, and encounters with creatures from the Curious Creatures story. Once all codes have been scanned, users will be able to download a free story e-book. The digital safari runs from 21 August – 4 September.

Leader of Gedling Borough Council, Councillor John Clarke MBE said;

“We have some fantastic free activities taking place across Arnold Town Centre for our Nottinghamshire Day events, and this is a great chance for residents to get out and support their local high town centre.

We’ve partnered with Nottinghamshire and Gedling Borough based providers to put this event together, support local groups and businesses and showcase some of the great things our county and borough has to offer.

This event has something for everyone to enjoy and is part of our wider plans to revitalise our town centres to create and support a vibrant economy.”
