This April, the world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) will return to the Bonington Theatre in Arnold, as part of their national tour of their First Encounters with Shakespeare production of Romeo and Juliet.

The RSC first visited the Bonington Theatre in 2019 to perform The Merchant of Venice and returned last year with Twelfth Night. This year the RSC are coming back to Arnold on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 April, with a 90-minute live performance of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays; Romeo and Juliet

The RSC will tour the country with this production from February to April. The aim of First Encounters productions is to introduce Shakespeare’s plays to people who have never seen his work live and to younger audiences, aged 7-13. These shorter plays use edited versions of the original language to help make them more accessible.

The Leader of Gedling Borough Council, Councillor John Clarke MBE said:

‘We are extremely proud to have the world-famous Royal Shakespeare Company returning once again to The Bonington Theatre in Arnold, as part of their nationwide tour. This special version of Romeo and Juliet will give audiences, especially younger people, the chance to see one of Shakespeare’s best-known plays in a new, accessible way, performed by one of the most highly regarded companies in the world.

The RSC performances of Romeo and Juliet will take place at the Bonington Theatre on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 April, at 7pm. Tickets cost £12.50, £10 concessions, £8 for under 25s and are available to buy from Bonington Theatre box office in person, by calling 0115 901 3640 or by visiting the website www.boningtontheatre.co.uk
