The Environmental Health service is situated in the Public Protection Section and provides the following services:

The Neighbourhood Wardens work closely with both the Police to patrol the Borough dealing with many aspects of Environmental Crime, such as; Dog Control, Fly Tipping, Litter, Anti-Social Behaviour, and Vandalism.
Officers in the Team are also responsible for managing the Boroughs Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system and working with other agencies to deal with anti-social behaviour.
The Pollution Control Team is concerned with safeguarding the Boroughs surroundings and ensuring that the quality of its environment is maintained and improved. This covers a broad range of issues, including dealing with complaints about noise, smells, dust and smoke. The team enforces controls aimed at minimising the effect of industry on the local environment and the control of pollution from construction sites.
Officers in this team also monitor and co-ordinate efforts to improve levels of air pollution within the Borough and deal with issues relating to land contamination.
Our Housing team aim to ensure that residents of social and private sector housing in the Borough live in homes that are both safe and healthy. As part of our work, we offer advice to private landlords, tenants and homeowners on a range of issues, including; disrepair and unsafe conditions, empty properties, disable facility grants, Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and energy efficiency.
The Food Safety Service is involved in a range of activities to maintain and improve the hygiene standards at food premises and to help ensure that food fit for human consumption is prepared, stored and sold at local outlets.
The Health and Safety team visit and inspect local businesses to check employers are complying with the relevant health, safety and welfare legislation that affects employees, self-employed persons and the general public. We also respond to complaints and serious accidents in the workplace. We have a large number of local premises that we have enforcement responsibility for e.g. shops, offices, day nurseries and warehouses while the Health & Safety Executive enforces health & safety at higher risk premises such as hospitals, nursing homes, schools, council owned premises and manufacturers.
