We only undertake assessments that are proportionate to the risk of air quality objectives being exceeded. If we predict that the objectives are unlikely to be achieved then we need to declare one or more Air Quality Management Areas (AQMA) and produce a local action plan.
During the First Round Review and Assessments we were required to produce reports in Stages. Where it was proven that a pollutant would meet the Air Quality Objectives then no further reporting is necessary.
From 2003 the reporting regime changed. Every three years we conduct an Updating and Screening Assessment. This is based on a checklist used to identify matters that have changed since the last review was completed, and which may now need further assessment.
We are also required to produce Annual Progress Reports in the years where no Updating and Screening Assessment is taken. The Annual Progress Report outlines changes and updates any monitoring data.
Where a risk that an air quality objective will be exceeded in a place where the public could be affected, we are required to undertake a Detailed Assessment.
Reports are available in the table below. The Nottinghamshire Air Quality Strategy, was created with the aim to control and protect air quality. Download the document below for more information. This latest strategy does not remove any of the objectives set out in the previous strategy, apart from introducing a new ozone objective to protect ecosystems, in line with the EU targets.
Where we predict that the air quality objectives are unlikely to be achieved then we are required to declare an Air Quality Management Area(s) (AQMA). Following the declaration we have 12 months to produce a Further Assessment and 18 months to produce an Action Plan. The purpose of the Action Plan is to put measures in place to reduce the pollution levels so that the objective is met.
