Animal Nuisance

In general, people are allowed to keep animals, as long as they do not cause a nuisance or a health hazard to other people and premises around them.Legislation exists to prevent nuisance and health hazards from being caused by keeping animals.

Such things as noise, smells or waste caused by keeping animals could be a problem and if reported, will be investigated.If you have a problem with someone keeping other kinds of animals please contact us.

Dangerous Dogs

It is an offence to allow a dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place or in a private place where it is not allowed to be. In addition, the ownership of certain types of dog, such as the Pit Bull Terrier, is prohibited. It is also an offence to breed from, sell or exchange (even as a gift) a prohibited type of a dog.  They are classed as dangerous because they were originally bred for their ability to fight.

The Police are responsible for enforcing statutory restrictions under the Dangerous Dogs Act (1991).

The dangerous dog types are: Pit Bull Terriers, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Braziliero.
