ECO Stars rates individual vehicles and overall fleet operations to recognise levels of operational and environmental performance. It provides advice and free guidance on how to improve efficiency, reduce operating costs and cut emissions.
After three successful years helping more than 40 operators with a total fleet of 6,000 vehicles in South Yorkshire, and expansion to Mid Devon in 2010, the ECO Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme has now come to Gedling. See ECO Stars Information Leaflet for more information
Recognition for what you currently do – each ECO Stars member gets a star rating based on an assessment of how 'clean' their vehicle fleet is and the best practice they demonstrate in key areas of:
Members receive a FREE operational efficiency review and road map developed by specialist fleet consultants to outline measures to reduce fuel consumption and help you reduce your fleet operating costs. Once you're received your road map our team is here to give you ongoing support.
The scheme is free to join and we have staff ready to help members through the application process.
The resulting benefits of joining the scheme for vehicle operators are:
As an example, by implementing the key measures recommended by the ECO Stars scheme, a typical HGV operator could expect to reduce fuel consumption by a minimum of 5% in the first year. Based on 80,000 miles per year at 8mpg and an average of 1 GBP per litre of diesel, there would be a saving of the equivalent of £2,300 per vehicle. For an operator with 10 vehicles this equates to a saving of one whole tanker of diesel!
The Gedling ECO Stars Scheme is run by Gedling Borough Council and funded by DEFRA. The scheme is open to operators of vans, trucks, buses and coaches, regardless of fleet size:
