Litter is anything that is dropped, thrown, left or deposited that causes defacement, in a public place
Over 30 million tonnes of litter are collected from our streets every year and nationally it costs council tax payers £858 million a year to clean the streets of England.
As well as sweeping and manual litter picking, we provide and empty over 400 litter bins across the borough – 80 more than we did 8 years ago
Litter doesn't just disappear! If litter is not picked up, items will take many years to decompose. For example:
It is against the law to drop litter anywhere in the borough and you could receive a fixed penalty fine of up to £2,500 if you do. If you notice a bin that is overflowing, broken or faulty please contact us.
We can all work together help help Keep Gedling Tidy.
Remember to place any rubbish you may have in the litter bins provided throughout the borough. If your item can be recycled you can visit one of our many Waste & Recycling Centres to help reduce the number of items in the land fill sites.
If you see anyone littering please help us by putting it in a bin, if there is a large amount you can report this online or by contacting us.
