<ContextStatement>

				The e-government modernisation programme has enabled the Council to put in place a firm ‘electronic’ foundation and will assist in the following areas:

Customer Care

Alongside the re-development of the Council’s Customer Charter consultation on the following Values is underway:

I know what services are available and how to get them

You are honest, open and transparent about your decision-making

You give me value for money

You meet my needs first time

I am your customer, you listen to me and I know you will take action

Efficiency

The Council is responding well to the efficiency agenda and this is reflected within the Annual Efficiency Statement. The Audit Commission has scored the Council at grade 3 for the Use of Resources assessment. This assessment looks at how effectively the Council manages and spends the funds available to it. This score is considered a good result, and all departments will which criteria can be improved upon in the future.

Local Government Reform & Shared Services

The White Paper promised for June 2006 will clearly be critical. Meanwhile, the Lyons Review, chaired by former Nottinghamshire County Council Chief Executive Sir Michael Lyons and reviewing funding and functions of all local authorities, has published summary papers urging councils to promote local debate on these issues.

Cabinet Members and the Senior Management Team have considered the future of local government, and what Gedling would propose to do in the event of a restructure. Some agreement was reached, which will inform discussions with other District Councils.

The Council has established relationships with other Councils and Agencies. Options for the delivery of Shared Services is a constant agenda item.

Transformational Government

The Council is well placed to respond to the proposals outlined within the November 2005 Paper.

Local DirectGov Programme

The Council is engaged with the programme and recognises the ‘Channel’ as a ‘place to turn for the latest and widest range of public information, providing an easy access point for all public services. It offers a place to interact with central and local government and reduces the frustration of dealing with multiple government sources’
