Carlton Neighbourhood Board

New Chair appointed to lead £20 million Carlton investment plan

Gedling Borough Council has announced the appointment of David Stewart OBE as the new Independent Chair of the Greater Carlton Neighbourhood Board, the group overseeing the delivery of £20 million in government funding to improve Carlton and surrounding areas.

Mr Stewart brings over five decades of experience in education, community leadership and youth engagement. A former Head Teacher at Oak Field School for 27 years, Mr Stewart has also served as a school governor, university lecturer and charity trustee. His work across mainstream and special education, combined with strong ties to local institutions, brings vital insight into the needs of the community.

He replaces Sir John Peace, who served as the interim chair during the board’s early stages. The board will now continue its work to develop a 10-year Regeneration Plan to help shape a better future for Carlton and its surrounding areas.

The Greater Carlton Neighbourhood Board is part of the government’s Plan for Neighbourhoods, which is investing £1.5 billion across 75 areas, over the next decade. Carlton is one of the areas selected to receive a £20 million share of this investment, aimed at “fixing the foundations” in places that have previously been left behind.

Board members include local community leaders, business representatives, and elected officials, including the Member of Parliament for Gedling, Michael Payne, and Leader of Gedling Borough Council, Councillor John Clarke MBE.
