Description

Councillor Julie Najuk, the Mayor of Gedling, is holding a charity walk to raise funds for the charity Anthony Nolan.

Anthony Nolan is the charity that makes lifesaving connections between patients in need and incredible strangers ready to donate their stem cells. The charity helps to save the lives of people with a blood cancer or blood disorder. Find out more about their work at www.anthonynolan.org

The walk will take place at 11am on Saturday 16 September at Gedling Country Park and is a chance to enjoy a bit of fresh air and nature at a leisurely pace and to de-stress, while raising money for this wonderful cause. Chat to friends or make new ones along the way.

Participants are asked to please donate a minimum of £5 per person to join the walk. You can donate online at the event’s JustGiving page. All of the money goes to Anthony Nolan.

If you donate online and tick the box for gift aid, then the charity receives extra money at no extra cost to you. Gift Aid enables registered charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers. For every £1 donation made with Gift Aid, charities receive an extra 25p from HM Revenue and Customs.

You will be able to pay with cash on the day if you cannot donate online.

Please note that onsite parking is limited, so if you can travel to the park on foot or by bus, we recommend those options. Find out more at the park’s website.

This fundraiser is being held in memory of Julie's close family friend, Samantha Clift.

About the walk

The walk will start from just below the play areas. Please gather on the grassed area near the containers to keep the path free. There will be cash donation points here too. The walk will begin at 11am.

The route will be approximately 5k. You will walk two circuits of the yellow route, which is moderate difficulty and accessible for most ages and abilities and pushchairs (please note there is a steep slope down at one point). The route will take you up past the play areas and cafe, left onto the zigzag path, down to the memorial garden and then back up to the cafe - then around again.

It should take approximately 1 hour 20 minutes to complete at a moderate walking pace. (Please note, this is not a race, everyone is encouraged to take their time, enjoy the views and have a natter along the way.)

Please wear suitable footwear - the paths are uneven in places and there are slopes.

Dogs are welcome, please keep them on a lead though.

Fresh water is available from the visitor centre's refill point (in the central area between the cafe and the toilets) and walkers are advised to bring a refillable bottle with them.
