13. Midland Hawthorn

Common Name - Midland Hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata ‘Paul Scarlet’)

This small ‘Hawthorn’ tree was found in Herefordshire garden in the 1850’s and is renowned for being smothered with double red-flowers in May and red ‘Haws’ in autumn. Having lobed, slightly glossy dark-green foliage this tree as striking autumn foliage and its sharp thorns on its branches, provide a safe home for a variety of wildlife and is classified as being bee-friendly.
