This tree is thought to have been in cultivation since Roman times and is in fact a native of South Eastern Europe, Himalyas and China. Being a slow growing tree, in time this tree can become medium to large in stature and can reach a height of thirty-five metres. This tree has a rounded habit and produces young aromatic foliage that can be made into wine, the tree also produces a good crop of delicious edible nuts that are valued by wildlife.
