28. Tibetan Cherry

Common Name – Tibetan Cherry or Birch Bark Cherry

Latin Name - Prunus serrulaTibetica

Height - 8  to 12 Metres                  Spread –  8 Metres

Brought to these shores by Ernest Wilson in 1908 from Western China this tree is adored by many for its mahogany-brown bark which, becomes sensational with age. This is a small rounded tree that will reach an ultimate height of eight metres at maturity, has willow-like foliage, and produces small, white flowers in April. Like all blossoming cherries these trees are bee-friendly and as such, are good for wildlife and also attract birds like bullfinches and leaf-mining moths.
