31. Maidenhair Tree

Common Name - Maidenhair Tree      

Latin Name - Ginkgo biloba

Height - 17 to 22 Metres                  

This tree was renowned for being one of the earliest to inhabit the earth and historically, was around when dinosaurs roamed the globe some 200 million years ago. Surviving the radiation fall-out and devastation of comet changing life on earth all those years ago. Gingko’s leaf fossils dating back 270 million years where rediscovered in China in 1691 and the tree was introduced into the UK in 1754.

This is a large conical deciduous tree, that will only produce fruit on the female specimens and unfortunately, the gender of the tree will only be known if the tree fruits. The tree at maturity will be in the region of 17 to 22 metres in height. 

Medicinally, the leaves of this tree are rich in beneficial nutrients that are used to treat certain health conditions and to make a healthy tea.
