Flood support

Storm Babet and Storm Henk - Property Flood Resilience (PFR) Repair Grant Funding

If your home or business was flooded during Storm Babet you may be eligible for support from the Government.  You can find more information on the Government’s response here: Government announces support for flood-hit areas - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

The purpose of the Scheme is to assist property owners to improve the flood resilience of their individual properties when they repair them after a flood. The outcome from this funding should be that if flooding were to reoccur, damage levels would be considerably lower, and property owners and businesses could return to their properties much more quickly.

It is open to properties that were flooded during Storm Babet between 19th and 25th October 2023 and those flooded during Storm Henk between 2nd and 12th January 2024.

Indicative costs from PFR framework works conducted by NCC in 2023 (what it is likely to cost householders to have flood resilience works conducted):

Remedial works typically cost approx. £3,500 per Terraced property and £6,000 per detached property with an additional approx. £800 in general costs for meetings, regs etc. This is on top of the survey costs of £840 (inclusive of VAT),which will have to be paid upfront to NCC before any survey is done and only £500 of which can be claimed back.

With £500 of the £5000 grant being paid towards survey costs, this leaves £4,500 available in the pot for each householder for the completion of remedial works. If remedial works are carried out costing above £4,500, the difference must be met by the householder.

For example and illustration purposes only:

Survey cost = £840 - £500 grant = £340 householder bill

Remedials = £6,000 - £4,500 grant = £1,000 householder bill

TOTAL amount to page including grant funding = £1,340 householder bill

Grant monies will only be paid out if a survey is carried out, remedial works are identified and completed and the works signed off by the surveyor.

If the customer does not go ahead after the survey, they must pay the total cost of the survey at £840.

RAB Surveyors have been procured and will be carrying out survey works before and quality assessments of finished works. Whitehouse Construction will be carrying out the PFR works. There is a possibility that if there are several properties in one street then the survey cost will be reduced. Nottinghamshire County Council are working with their appointed surveyors on this and confirmed applicants will be advised accordingly at the time Nottinghamshire County Council book the survey with them and take payment.

Surveyors and Contractors must meet DEFRA criteria to be eligible to carry out works. As such customers are asked not to engage with other surveyors as this will complicate and impede the process.

Properties where integral garages flooded but were the only internal part of the property to be flooded, do not count as eligible for the PFR monies.

The customer must ensure they have read and met the full eligibility criteria before applying. If they decide to proceed, then they must contact Gedling BC by completing the Expression of interest form. We will then collate applications and send all details to Nottinghamshire County Council who will be in touch with regard to next steps. Please note, by completing the EOI form, the customer is consenting to having their data shared with NCC for this purpose.
