Councillor Ron McCrossen of Woodthorpe was declared the Mayor of Gedling in the Council Chamber on Wednesday, 22nd May where he announced his support for the charity Parkinson's UK for the upcoming year.
The new Mayor expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Julie Najuk, for her outstanding work over the past 12 months, during which she raised over £3,000 for her chosen charity, the Anthony Nolan Trust.
Mayor McCrossen said, “Gedling as a community is a strong and healthy place to live, and I believe it will continue to grow in the years to come. This role means a great deal to the people we visit and support, and I feel privileged to be entrusted with these duties.”
The evening also saw the appointment of a new Youth Mayor, Stella Clarke. Stella follows outgoing Youth Mayor Freddie Vokes, who was thanked for his exceptional work over the past year. The pair will continue to work together on issues affecting young people in Gedling Borough as part of the Youth Council, now heading into its 12th year.
Stella said, “This opportunity means the world to me. As Youth Mayor, I’m committed to making Gedling a better place for young people. I believe in the power of youth to bring about positive change. As the Youth Council, we can provide constructive outlets for creative and physical activities.”
Councillor Kathryn Fox, Portfolio Holder for Life Chances and Vulnerability works closely with the Youth Council and has been impressed with what they have achieved.
She said: “I feel so proud to be able to work with such a talented group of young people. Both Stella and Freddie have been brilliant, and I am looking forward to working with them throughout the year”.
