The Bonington Theatre in Arnold has announced a new series of Dance Party events, blending legendary concert films with live DJ sets for evenings of music and dancing.

Launching this September and running until February, the series offers music lovers the chance to relive iconic moments in live music history and dance the night away to DJ sets inspired by the films.

The series begins on Saturday 13 September with Bob Marley & The Wailers: Live! At the Rainbow 1977. Filmed during Marley’s Exodus era, this concert captures the energy and spirit of one of reggae’s most powerful moments. DJ Judge Success (Success Sound System) will set the tone before the screening and keep the rhythm going afterwards.

On Saturday 25 October, the spotlight turns to Stop Making Sense, the famous 1984 concert film by Jonathan Demme featuring Talking Heads. The film has been widely hailed as the greatest concert movie ever made and features unforgettable performances of songs like “Once in a Lifetime” and “Burning Down the House.” DJ Dom Gourlay (Drowned in Sound) will take the reins on the decks for the evening.

In the new year, on Saturday 10 January, audiences can enjoy Marvin Gaye: Greatest Hits Live in 1976, a rare and intimate concert recorded in Amsterdam. With classic songs like “It Takes Two” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” it’s a must-see for soul fans. DJ Tommy K will provide the soundtrack to the night.

The final event takes place on Saturday 21 February, with a special double-bill. First, Jake Bugg: Live at the Royal Albert Hall captures the Nottingham-born artist’s 2014 performance with guests including Johnny Marr and Michael Kiwanuka. Then, The Rolling Stones: Welcome to Shepherd’s Bush showcases a rare 1999 gig with a stripped-down setlist full of rarely played gems. DJs Dom Gourlay and Jimi Arundell return for this event, playing a mix of classic rock, indie and modern anthems.

Councillor Henry Wheeler, Portfolio Holder for Lifestyles, Health and Wellbeing said:

“We’re thrilled to bring this exciting series to the Bonington Theatre. These Dance Party events offer something truly special, combining legendary live music with a great night out right here in Arnold. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate music and film together as a community and I’d encourage everyone to come along and be part of it.”

Each Dance Party event promises an immersive night of music and film, transforming the cinema experience into a celebration of sound and community.

All will take place at the Bonington Theatre in Arnold with doors opening at 7pm. Tickets are available from £4. Find out more and buy tickets on the Bonington Theatre website or visit the Bonington Theatre box office.
