£140K park and play area officially opens this weekend with a community celebration

The park, which closed in July 2019 while works took place, has been transformed from a bowling green into a play area with rope pyramid, seesaws, slide, roundabout, balance beams, swings, picnic tables, benches and a table tennis area.
Organised by Haywood Road Community Association, the opening event takes place on Saturday 14 September from 12 noon – 5pm at Haywood Road Green, Mapperley. The Mayor of Gedling, Councillor Sandra Barnes, will officially open the park and there will be family events including a table tennis challenge, community picnic, a variety of stalls and activities and an art exhibition at Haywood Road Community Centre, next to the green.
Gedling Borough Council and FCC Communities Foundation, a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, conservation and heritage projects, jointly provided the funding for the new park. The council provided £70,000 and a further £70,000 was provided by FCC Communities Foundation Ltd following a joint bid by the council and the Haywood Road Community Association.
Leader of Gedling Borough Council, Councillor John Clarke said;
“The new facilities look absolutely fantastic, and what a difference this will make for the community. The play area looks brilliant and I’m sure it will be very popular with local residents. We listened to the feedback from residents and community groups and worked with them to make this happen. I’d like to thank everyone involved in this transformation.”
FCC Communities Foundation previously known as WREN is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, biodiversity and heritage projects from funds donated by FCC Environment through the Landfill Communities Fund.
