Gedling Borough Council announce partnership with HFE for specialist staff training and development.

Gedling Borough Council is pleased to announce its partnership with HFE (Health and Fitness Education), who will support the Gedling Leisure Team with essential training and education to provide safe and effective exercise for members with a disability.

With around 1 in 5 people in the UK living with a disability, ensuring this large proportion of the population has access to the best available adapted services is more important than ever. This includes exercise, which it is estimated only 18% of disabled adults participate in, for more than 30 minutes a week, in contrast to 38% of non-disabled adults.

As a result, Gedling Borough Council is seeking to upskill members of the Gedling Leisure team through the exercise for disabled client’s course, to better support customers who may have a disability or impairment, and they have chosen HFE to provide the training.

As the UK’s leading fitness industry training provider of personal training courses and exercise specialist programmes, HFE are a customer-driven organisation, well-known for delivering the highest of quality courses across several different disciplines. Placing value at the forefront of their service, HFE have amassed an exceptional reputation for their learning content and tuition, as well as being backed by several industry professional bodies such as CIMSPA, The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity.

The Level 3 Exercise for Disabled Clients course will see the Gedling Leisure staff encounter a variety of learning activities, including: understanding a range of disabilities impairments; preparing and teaching exercise to clients with disabilities; and helping clients with disabilities to adopt and maintain a physically active lifestyle.

With the programme being entirely online, the staff taking the course will benefit from its flexible nature. Alongside this, ongoing contact with HFE’s tutors by email, phone or online will ensure they receive the education they need to serve customers with disabilities.

This latest strive towards inclusivity by Gedling Borough Council aligns with the Active for Life programme already in place, which has been of significant benefit to those with several health conditions, as well as old age, in the community. These sessions continue to enable better lifestyles for everyone in the local area, and will be further extended once training has completed for our staff with HFE.
