Date Posted: 1:24 PM on Mon, 25 November 2024

The event, organised by Phenomenal Futures, supported by Councillor Kathryn Fox, Portfolio Holder for Life Chances and Vulnerability, brought people together to share experiences, hear from guest speakers, and learn more about the White Ribbon campaign. The event was also attended by the Leader of Gedling Borough Council, Councillor John Clarke MBE, Mayor of Gedling, Councillor Ron McCrossen, Deputy Mayor Councillor Robinson-Payne, Youth Mayor Stella Clarke and the Member of Parliament for Gedling, Michael Payne.

The event included a keynote speech from Ryan Hart, who shared his personal story with attendees. His account helped to show the importance of working together to create safer communities and support those affected by domestic abuse and coercive control.

Phenomenal Futures, led by Hilary Brown, works to support individuals and raise awareness about domestic abuse. Gedling Borough Council is proud to partner with this organisation to deliver events and initiatives that promote safety and respect across the borough.

Councillor Kathryn Fox, Portfolio Holder for Life Chances and Vulnerability, said:
"White Ribbon Day is a chance for us to reflect on how we can all work together to challenge violence against women and girls. Events like this help raise awareness and encourage positive action. We are pleased to work with Phenomenal Futures to support this important work."

Councillor John Clarke MBE, Leader of Gedling Borough Council, added:
"This event was a powerful reminder of the work we all need to do to challenge harmful behaviours and create lasting change. Hearing Ryan Hart’s story was deeply moving and underlined the importance of the White Ribbon message. This is an issue I feel very strongly about, and I am proud that Gedling Borough Council is playing its part in raising awareness and supporting our communities."

The council remains committed to working with local organisations to raise awareness and provide support to those affected by violence and abuse.
