Date Posted: 2:09 PM on Fri, 7 March 2025

This year’s International Women’s Day theme, 'Accelerating Action,' highlights the importance of taking decisive steps towards gender equality. As Youth Mayor of Gedling, Stella Clarke has played an active role in local decision-making, demonstrating the value of youth leadership and engagement in shaping the community.

As Youth Mayor of Gedling, Stella Clarke has spent the past year representing young people across the borough. Her role has involved contributing to important discussions and advocating for the youth of Gedling.

One of Stella’s key commitments has been her involvement with the Gedling Youth Council, where she has regularly attended meetings at the Civic Centre Council Chamber. The Youth Council focuses on issues affecting young people, such as education and mental health, ensuring their perspectives are considered. Stella’s participation in these discussions has supported efforts to address key concerns. These meetings, attended by Councillor Kathryn Fox, Portfolio Holder for Life Chances and Vulnerability, and council officers, have also featured guest speakers, including Hilary Brown from Phenomenal Futures and Jackie Wilson from Positively Empowered Kids, who work to support and develop young people.

In addition to her role in the Youth Council, Stella has been part of the Carlton Town Board, contributing to discussions on how central government funding can be used to benefit the local community. Her involvement in these strategic conversations highlights the importance of including young people in decision-making processes.

Stella has also engaged in events focusing on community issues, including speaking at a White Ribbon Day event held in collaboration with Phenomenal Futures. The event featured a keynote address by Ryan Hart on domestic violence awareness, reinforcing the need for continued dialogue on safety and respect.

During the festive season, she joined the Mayor of Gedling and Michael Payne, MP for Gedling, at the Arnold Christmas Lights Switch-On, participating in a key community event.

Councillor Kathryn Fox, who has worked closely with Stella throughout her time as Youth Mayor, said:

“It has been a privilege to work with Stella over the past year and witness the dedication and passion she has brought to her role as Youth Mayor. Her commitment to representing young people and engaging in important discussions demonstrates the vital role young women play in leadership. Encouraging and supporting young women like Stella to step into these positions is key to building a more inclusive and representative future. I have no doubt that she will continue to make a positive impact in Gedling and beyond.”

Stella Clarke’s time as Youth Mayor has been marked by her involvement in civic activities and discussions that impact young people. As International Women’s Day approaches, her contributions highlight the role young women can play in leadership and community engagement. As her term comes to a close, her participation in local initiatives is set to continue.
