A by-election will held on Thursday 1 May in the Porchester ward following the resignation of Councillor Michelle Welsh. This election will be combined with the elections of councillors to Nottinghamshire County Council on 1 May 2025.

The by-election only affects registered electors in the Porchester Ward; residents living in other areas of Gedling Borough will not be eligible to vote for their borough councillor.

Following requests from local electors, the election process has now started to fill the vacant seat.

Local residents have until 4pm on Wednesday 2 April 2025 to submit nominations papers. Nomination packs can be found on the Gedling Borough Council website at www.gedling.gov.uk/elections/nottinghamshirecountycouncilelection.

The deadline for new voter registration applications is midnight on Friday 11 April 2025 and the deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Monday 14 April 2025. Recent home movers should check that they have updated the electoral register and will be eligible to vote.

Additional guidance about being an election candidate and the various election procedures is available online from the Electoral Commission at www.electoralcommission.org.uk.

If residents have any questions regarding registration or the electoral process then they can contact the Gedling Borough Council Electoral Services team on 0115 901 3906 or email elections@gedling.gov.uk
