New Treasure Trail to be launched across borough town centres and villages

Gedling Borough Council is delighted to announce the launch of the exciting new Treasure Map Trails across the borough, starting with Arnold town centre and Netherfield from today. This award-winning, fantasy-themed adventure is set to captivate the imaginations of children aged 5 to 12, offering families a fun and engaging way to explore local shops and landmarks.

The launch of the treasure trail will begin in the borough’s largest town centre, Arnold and Netherfield and features a variety of local businesses and landmarks. The maps can be picked up from participating stores, whose details can be found on the events page.

Participants are invited to pick up their treasure maps and embark on an adventure to find hidden treasures such as statues, sculptures, gargoyles, and quirky signs, many of which reveal fascinating stories about the areas rich history.

Treasure Map Trails are designed to get families outside, enjoying their local town centres in a completely new and interactive way. The trails, like others in the series, is a one-hour adventure that encourages young explorers to engage with their surroundings, fostering a sense of curiosity and appreciation for their community.

This treasure trail embraces a delightful fantasy theme, featuring elements like the “Dragon’s Disco.” Each trail is presented as an A3 poster that children can hold, follow, and write on as they discover treasures. At the end of their adventure, children can download a certificate to celebrate their achievement and chart their progress in the Treasure Map Trails Academy.

Arnold and Netherfield trails are two of six new maps being launched, including trails in Carlton Hill, Mapperley, Arnot Hill Park and Bestwood Country Park. The trails are being created thanks to funding from the UK Government as part of the Shared Prosperity Funding.

Portfolio Holder for Communities and Place, Councillor Lynda Pearson said:

"I am delighted to see the launch of the Treasure Map Trails in Arnold and Netherfield. This fantastic project will not only encourage families to visit our town centres, but it will also help children discover and learn about our local history in a fun and engaging way. Over the next few weeks, we will be launching these maps across the borough, and I am confident they will be a great success."

Families are encouraged to visit Arnold and Netherfield from today to begin their treasure-hunting adventure. Maps are available at participating locations, and more information can be found at www.gedling.gov.uk/events
