Dangerous structures
We work closely with other services to ensure public safety when structures become dangerous. This may include:
- Buildings
- Boundary walls
There are two categories of dangerous structure:
- Imminent. These are considered at risk of collapse and must be secured for public safety. Emergency works may be arranged and recharged to the landowner who has prime responsibility for the condition of the structure.
- Hazardous – These are considered unstable, but not imminently dangerous. The owner is given a reasonable time to remove the danger. Failure to respond may result in a Magistrates Court Order being obtained.
More information can be found on the Local Authority Building Control website: Dangerous structures | LABC
