What is building control?

Gedling Borough Council's building control team are not-for-profit service that are here to help with building projects of all sizes. We are a local, experienced and trusted  team of highly qualified and experienced professionals, that can provide impartial advice and help you to plan your building project. We will guide you through your project from planning to completion, including checking your plans and carrying out site visits

Building control is a service the council provides to make sure health and safety standards apply to building work, that energy saving provisions are achieved and premises are fully accessible for use, meeting national building regulations. 

What is building work?

  • New builds
  • Structural alterations
  • Garage and loft conversions
  • Renovations
  • Window and door replacements
  • Insulating a cavity wall
  • Underpinning the foundations of a building
  • Work affecting thermal elements, energy status or energy performance of a building 

Do I need building regulation approval?

There are many kinds of alterations and additions to houses and other buildings that might require building regulation approval.  Use the interactive house on the Planning Portal website for further information on planning permission and building regulation requirements.
