Gedling Borough Council will be hosting a series of free retail workshops to support local businesses to boost their sales.

The 2 hour sessions will be held at the Council’s civic centre over the next few months, starting on Wednesday 4 September with a session on how businesses can adapt to today’s economy and boost sales.

The events are being run by Ovy Design, a Nottingham based business who will be providing hands-on, informal workshops designed to meet the needs of businesses, especially small, medium and new businesses looking for help to attract more customers and increase sales with easy-to-use strategies.

The workshops include sessions on how to use social media to boost sales, design marketing materials using free software, using phones to showcase shops, branding and marketing and more.

The sessions will give businesses the practical tips they need and give them an opportunity to network with other businesses.

The workshops are completely free and are on a first come, first served basis. The programmes are being funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

Businesses can sign up to any of the workshops by visiting www.gedling.gov.uk/whatson and click on the Retail Business Workshop events.

Wendy Walker from Ovy Design said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to get some free support that could make a real difference to their business. It’s an opportunity to try something new and bring customers to their businesses. We have over 30 years of experience running a small business and we can empathise with the situation many retailers are finding themselves in and it’s great that Gedling Borough Council is offering these workshops.”

Leader of Gedling Borough Council, Councillor John Clarke MBE said:

“We are really excited about these workshops and local businesses should be snapping up these sessions. We know many businesses are struggling and these courses will help them stay up to date with the modern way of working and give them the confidence to try new things and get new customers. We are really grateful for the funding to make this happen and Wendy and her team will do a great job at these training sessions.

It's our priority to boost the local economy, get more people into our town centres and using our small businesses and these sessions will help with that goal.”
