Cancellation of an Initial Notice

Cancellation of an Initial Notice

There may be cause for whatever reason to cancel an Initial Notice submitted by a private Approved Inspector. This might be due to the Private Inspector no longer possessing the required insurance cover to provide their Approved Inspector service or it might be purely down to the Private Inspector not fulfilling your expectations.

If you are considering a reversion back to the Local Authority you will need to do the following

  • Contact Gedling buildingcontrol@gedling.gov.uk for a quotation.
  • Complete ‘Form 7 – Notice of cancellation by the person carrying out work’ online here or download the form here.
  • Complete the Building Regulation application form ticking the ‘Reversion’ box at the top of the form or selecting ‘Reversion’ on the online Building Regulation application form.
  • If possible provide evidence of the work up to the point of the cancellation. This might be photographic evidence, detailed plans of the building work and inspection records from the Approved Inspector.

Once the reversion application has been received and acknowledged you should arrange a site inspection to allow the Building Control Surveyor to inspect the work and to advise on further inspections that will be required (if applicable). When the work is complete and the Building Control Surveyor is happy that the work complies with the Building Regulations a completion certificate will be issued.

Site inspections can be carried out on the same day (Monday to Friday) if the request is made before 10am.
