Animal Licensing

Animal Licensing

From 1 October 2018 animal licensing is changing

You will require a licence if you:

  • Sell animals as pets
  • Provide for, or arrange for the provision of boarding for cats or dogs (including boarding in kennels, catteries, home boarding for dogs and day care for dogs)
  • Hire out horses (whether for riding lessons or not)
  • Breed dogs (3 litters a year or more)
  • Breed, keep or train animals for exhibition (including performance)

The Regulations, conditions, application forms and fees are available below.

If you currently hold a licence with the Council, it will run until it's expiry date.

There is one application form that covers three types of animal activity: Commercial Boarding, Home Boarding and Day Care.  Please be aware that these are treated as individual applications and different conditions apply.

Planning Permission

Any business under taking a licensable activity may require planning permission. Applicants are strongly advised to contact Gedling Borough Council’s Planning and Building Control Team to discuss. To find out more visit out planning and building control page.

Documents

If submitting any of the application forms below you will also need to complete a Standard Introductory Form and an Animal Licensing Declaration
