MyZone
What is MyZone?
MyZone is a form of wearable fitness technology which can be used while working out in the gym or a fitness class, taking a swim or exercising outdoors.
The real-time fitness tracking display shows your heart rate, calories burned and more. As you exercise, you’ll earn MyZone Effort Points (MEPs) depending on what heart rate zone you’re in, perfect for when you join challenges and work out with friends for some extra motivation!
MEPs are tailored to each individual and are based on how hard your heart is working, not just your overall fitness level or ability.
How to use MyZone
View live workout stats, for yourself and others, on the TV screen in Carlton Forum Leisure Centre’s Group Exercise Studio, Indoor Cycling Studio and the D.O.S.E Studio. You can also track your progress on the free MyZone app.
MyZone heart rate monitors are available to buy from Carlton Forum Leisure Centre. There are three ways to wear the MyZone heart rate monitor; on your chest, forearm, and wrist. The wrist option is the only suitable way to wear the monitor when swimming. One of the great benefits to a MyZone heart rate monitor is that you can use this outside of the leisure centre, for example when you're walking the dog or going for a run in the park, so you can still be earning MEPs.
The monitor has a light indicator and built-in memory so you can see which heart rate zone you’re in and record the workout without having your phone with you at that time.
Once your monitor is set up, you can start using MyZone straight away. A member of staff will be happy to show you how to use it with the TV screens in the leisure centre.
You will then need to download the FREE MyZone app from Google Play or App Store to get started on tracking your fitness!
Purchasing a MyZone heart rate monitor
You can buy an MZ-SWITCH heart rate monitor (includes 3 ways to wear it; wrist, forearm, or chest) for just £65 (RRP £139.99) from the reception desk at Carlton Forum Leisure Centre.
MyZone virtual classes
MyZone virtual classes take part in the D.O.S.E. Studio at Carlton Forum Leisure Centre.
These timetabled sessions are shown on the TV screen in the studio, with an instructor on hand to guide you through the exercises and make sure you’re getting the most out of your MyZone heart rate monitor.
You do not need to book your place on these classes, just turn up. These sessions are free for members. Pay as you go customers will need to pay for a gym session to access these sessions.

Can I still take part if I don’t have a MyZone heart rate monitor?
Yes. The only sessions you will need a MyZone heart rate monitor for is the ‘Zone Match’ classes. However, you will get much more out of these sessions with a MyZone monitor, which can be purchased from reception at Carlton Forum Leisure Centre.
A small number of monitors will be available to borrow for the sessions (a refundable deposit will be required).
What do the classes involve?
Classes will be updated regularly and are based on circuit training style exercises. This includes using the equipment in the D.O.S.E Studio such as kettle bells, slam balls, dumbbells and cardio equipment. Exercises can be adjusted to suit your fitness ability and our fitness advisors can help you – it’s just about moving more and getting your heart rate going!
‘Zone Match’ classes guide you through a personal workout experience with the aim of matching your heart rate with the MyZone target zones (a MyZone heart rate monitor is required for this class).
Can I still use the D.O.S.E Studio while the classes are on?
Yes, the D.O.S.E Studio will still be available for general use during the scheduled sessions times, however you may find that space in the studio is limited during these times. The class timetable will be available to view outside the studio.
Useful information
- The heart rate monitor can store up to 36 hours of exercise data with a built-in memory.
- Package includes 3 ways to wear the monitor, a USB charging cable and instructions.
- Tracks physical activity in water when worn on the wrist only. Waterproof to a depth of 10m.
- The chest belt fits 24.4" to 34.6".
- The D.O.S.E Studio at Carlton Forum Leisure Centre is currently the only place in our leisure centres with a MyZone TV display; however you can use the device anywhere and track your exercise data on the MyZone app.
- The MyZone app is compatible with IOS 12.0 and above and with Android 5.0 and above.
- Workouts need to be at least 10 minutes long to record graph data.
- How to wear the chest strap: Wear your chest strap so that it fits comfortably snug and sits just beneath your sternum. While many position the module so that it is in the centre, some find better connection with it left-of-center. Dampen the black sensors on the back of the strap so it connects quickly, and always be sure the module is snapped in right-side-up (check the logo is the right way up on the front of the module).
