Drowning Prevention Week

The Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) are raising awareness of water safety with Drowning Prevention Week during 14-21 June.

According to a survey by RLSS UK, only 30% of parents surveyed said they were 'very confident' that their child knows how to stay safe in and around water.

Sign up for swimming lessons with Gedling Leisure between 14 and 21 June and there's no joining fee to pay (saving £15) plus a free pair of goggles for each new learner! 

We want to help more children learn to swim and be more confident in water, particularly as the weather gets warmer and the summer holidays approach. Learning to swim is an essential life skill and will enable your child to enjoy the swimming pools and open water more safely.

Simply pop in to Calverton, Carlton Forum or Arnold Leisure Centre for more information and to sign up for swimming lessons during Drowning Prevention Week.

We will also arrange a free swim assessment to get you started and assess the learner's abilities.

Did you know?

According to a survey by RLSS UK in March 2022:

  • An average of 304 UK and Irish Citizens lose their life to accidental drowning each year.
  • In the last 5 years, 119 children accidentally drowned in the UK.
  • Around 49% of accidental drownings happen between May and August.

  • This offer is valid between 14 - 21 June 2025.
  • This offer is valid for Baby and Toddler lessons, Junior Swim Star lessons, Disability Swim Star lessons, adult lessons and private lessons.
  • Each new learner signing up between 14-21 June will receive one pair of goggles, for their sole use, free of charge. Subject to availability.
  • To redeem this offer, visit one of the leisure centres in person. This offer is not available online.
  • An initial payment is required when signing up (this will vary depending on the joining date). Direct debit payments are taken on, or near, the 5th of each month.
  • Direct debit payments are based on a 50-week provision of lessons and does not include a 2 week break in lessons over the Christmas period.
  • Swimming lesson places are subject to availability. You may be added to a waiting list if no spaces are available on your preferred class day/ time.
