Gedling Leisure is an Approved Training Centre with Swim England Qualifications and the Royal Live Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) offering courses in both lifeguarding and swim teaching.

RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) Generation 10
The NPLQ is the most awarded lifeguard qualification in the UK and Ireland and is also internationally recognised. More than 40,000 pool lifeguards qualify with the RLSS UK every year, and there are currently more than 80,000 pool lifeguards qualified in the NPLQ – 95% of all UK pool lifeguards.
RLSS UK is regulated by Ofqual, Qualifications Wales and CCEA in Northern Ireland.
Eligibility
Every candidate attending a NPLQ course must be aged 16 or above at the time of taking the NPLQ final assessment and be able to:
- Jump/dive into deep water
- Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
- Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
- Tread water for 30 seconds
- Surface dive to the floor of the pool
- Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits

Swim England Qualifications (SEQ) Level 1 Assistant Swimming Teacher
The SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification is a practical qualification to start your career in swimming.
This qualification will provide you with the essential knowledge and skills needed to assist a qualified Swimming Teacher in delivering high quality inclusive swimming lessons in a range of settings, for example at a leisure centre, swim school or club learn to swim programme.
You will learn about:
- The role and responsibilities of a Swimming Assistant
- The participant journey; Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) and Core Aquatic Skills (CAS)
- The component parts of the strokes
- The scientific principles in swimming
- How to create an inclusive environment
- The purpose of components of a swimming lesson
- How to support participants and the Swimming Teacher
- How to demonstrate effective communication skills
- How to review your own performance
By the end of this course, you will be able to assist a qualified Level 2 Swimming Teacher.
Entry Requirements
You must be 16 years of age or older on the first day of the course.
No formal entry requirements or prior experience required.

Swim England Qualifications (SEQ) Level 2 Swimming Teacher
The SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualification is a practical qualification for individuals wanting to progress from their SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification.
This qualification will enable you to effectively plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate swimming lessons independently. It also gives you the skills and confidence to provide quality, inclusive and fun swimming lessons.
You will learn about:
- The role and responsibilities of a Swimming Teacher
- The role in promoting aquatics
- How to plan overviews and swimming lesson plans for a range of ability groups
- How teach safe, inclusive and effective swimming lessons to a range of ability groups
- The influence of scientific principles on a participant in the water
- How to meet the needs of participants
- How to assess participants at the correct level
- How to demonstrate lesson management skills
- How to supervise and instruct a Swimming Assistant
- How to develop participants Core Aquatic Skills (CAS)
- How to develop participants swimming strokes
- How to demonstrate effective communication skills
- How to evaluate your own performance
- How to plan for professional development
By the end of this course, you will be able to effectively plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate swimming lessons independently.
Entry Requirements
You must be 16 years of age or older on the first day of the course.
Hold a SEQ level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) certificate or Swim England/ASA equivalent.
